The Albalas family embarked on a thrilling wildlife journey spanning the enchanting locales of Pangot, Corbett National Park, and Dhannauri. Under the expert guidance of Mahesh Rajpoot, the trip was a perfect blend of serene birdwatching, captivating mammal sightings, and enriching natural experiences.
The adventure began in Pangot, a picturesque Himalayan birding destination known for its dense oak and rhododendron forests. Amid the tranquil surroundings, the group had the rare delight of spotting a Yellow-throated Marten gracefully maneuvering through the underbrush. The birdlife in Pangot was equally mesmerizing, with sightings of the elusive Koklass Pheasant, the shy Hill Partridge, and the charming Plain Mountain Finch. The family also marveled at the vibrant hues of the Golden Bush Robin and the stunning Blue-fronted Redstart, along with the impressive Bearded Vulture soaring against the mountain backdrop.
The journey continued to Corbett National Park, a legendary destination for wildlife enthusiasts. The highlight of this leg was an awe-inspiring encounter with a majestic Tigress and an enormous Asian Elephant, a moment that left the entire family spellbound. Corbett also presented opportunities to observe bird species like the Great Hornbill, the unique Great Slaty Woodpecker, and the striking Golden Eagle. These sightings exemplified the park’s diverse avifauna and the richness of its ecosystem.
The final stop was Dhannauri, a haven for wetland birds. Here, the family was greeted by a lively congregation of waterfowl, including Bar-headed Geese, Knob-billed Ducks, and Northern Pintails. Other noteworthy observations included the elegant Sarus Crane, the melodic Striated Babbler, and the graceful Spotted Redshank. These wetland spectacles showcased the importance of preserving such habitats for migratory and resident birds alike.
Throughout the journey, the family also encountered species like the Collared Owlet, Scaly-bellied Woodpecker, Himalayan Rubythroat, and the diminutive Immaculate Cupwing, demonstrating the biodiversity of the region. Notable raptors included the Cinereous Vulture and White-rumped Vulture, emphasizing the ecological significance of these scavengers.
The trip was a testament to the beauty of India’s natural heritage, offering unforgettable wildlife encounters and birdwatching experiences.
