Hey, birding enthusiasts! Richard Webb here, sharing my incredible birding adventure in Dholpur and Ranthambhore. From 07-10 February 2023, I embarked on a journey to explore the captivating avian life of the Chambal River Sanctuary and indulge in exciting wildlife tours in Ranthambore.

Accompanied by my expert guide, Mahesh, we began our birding extravaganza at the renowned Chambal River Sanctuary. The sanctuary's Chambal tour packages offered a unique opportunity to witness a wide variety of birds in their natural habitat. As we navigated the pristine river on a boat, my eyes feasted on the mesmerizing gharial, graceful Ruddy shelduck, and exquisite Indian skimmer. The Black-bellied tern and Great thick-knee provided stunning aerial displays, while the Kentish plover and River lapwing caught my attention with their elegant plumage.

Moving on from Chambal, we made our way to Ranthambhore for thrilling wildlife tours. Apart from the majestic Tiger and sloth bear, the park treated us to sightings of the elusive Brown fish owl and the mighty mugger crocodile. The Indian gazelle gracefully roamed the grasslands, creating a picture-perfect wildlife spectacle.

Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve

But let's not forget the main highlight – the birds! Ranthambhore delighted us with its avian diversity, featuring the charming Painted spurfowl, Painted sandgrouse, and Rufous-fronted Prinia. The Indian courser, White-naped woodpecker, and White-browed fantail showcased their unique beauty amidst the lush foliage. We also encountered the melodious Hume's warbler and the striking Crested bunting.

With binoculars always at the ready, I managed to spot various other species such as the Common chiffchaff, Great grey shrike, and Yellow-wattled lapwing. The Indian vulture, Brown crake, and Indian thick-knee also made their presence felt. I even caught a glimpse of the rare Black stork and the elusive Indian scoop owl.
Our adventure continued as we observed the soaring Crested serpent eagle and the lively Tawny pipit. The Siberian stonechat and the Common wood shrike provided stunning photographic opportunities. And let's not forget the playful antics of the Alexandrine parakeet and the striking White-bellied drongo.
